Countdown until our trip to Takaoka, Japan

downtown Ft. WayneIt’s strange to be moving so quickly toward something I’ve hoped so long for. It’s hard to believe that in a couple days we will be on our way to Japan. Anticipation has taken hold of me to the point that all I can think of is preparation for our trip. The past few days have been devoted to packing and brushing up on important Japanese phrases. As I stare at my stuffed suitcase, it’s starting to sink in that we’re actually leaving. I’m so excited it feels like a dream, and I’m not sure I’ll be fully convinced until I’m sitting in an airline seat. Being able to visit Japan is more than I could have ever dreamed for and I can’t wait!

To be days away from a once in a lifetime opportunity is incredible. I’m so excited to see the beauty of old Japan and the wonders of modern Japan. I’m ready to experience it all. I can’t wait to try all kinds of new food and after much practice using chopsticks, I feel ready for all the culinary adventure Japan has to offer. But most of all, I am excited to meet my host family. I hope to be able to make lasting friendships while in Japan and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to meet new people.

I’ve never been out of the country for so long so this will be a new experience for me. I’m a little nervous I’m forgetting to pack something but I know no matter what, this is going to be an amazing trip. I’m excited to get to know more about our sister city Takaoka and to learn more about Japanese culture. I can’t wait to see what this trip has in store and I’m ready to make memories I will keep for a lifetime.
